DCing is not exactly the three options there for me...
DCing for me is tiring work, but so is spriting, because a good piece would need a lot of time, commitment and patience. And I'm not someone who has good practical ability, more of theory. I don't have much of the requirements to be a good DCer/Spriter. But the magic comes in from the fact that, once you finish the work, you'd feel great.
I'd say, DCing is something that would test your overall ability:
1. Practical
You do up the data by yourself, and test it out for errors.
2. Theory
Calculations and estimations come here, so that you can make the character as perfect as possible rather than just an abstract character with a lot of glitches and possibly do not fit with the sprite that is to be used for the character.
3. Patience/Commitment
This is the hardest part of DCing. If you don't have this, you can never DC.
Practical and Theory comes together. You have to understand the mechanics of DCing. If you don't, you do not have any idea how to make the data, or any idea how the data could be made.
