I can't believe I missed this Thread...5 pages already...jeez*
Why don't u just borrow Blue Phoenix's Hair...will he let u for ur char..?
Then afterwards you can try and manipulate it in a different angles or start from scratch again, does that help - start all over?
Well, as long as your doing his hair can u make his face any different, ur really not that bad at drawing u know... (newbie :D)
I'll pm u back...it's not at all hard...u know...rolleyes

the problem i can see, which you keep facing is the shading of the hair.
you need to make the hair darker, so you can have lighter bits
and also have darker bits too.
if you have photoshop, its helpful to use the burn tool, with either midtones, or highlights, which ever better suits you. otherwise, use a colour bar to get darker and lighter colors
you need 3 different shades of the same colour to shade without burn tool
1. dark yellow 2. medium yellow(not bright) 3. bright yellow, as yellow as you can get it.

OR do what BP did and use different hues, not shades

and the sun is to help you make where the highlights and shading go, you dont NEED to use it

woa, that's a little much glow =P
In general, the sprite's bg looks a little strange...

I don't quite get the strange color separation in the hair. Not that I'd aim for realism this time (burning people, infinite arrow-shooting, and living zombies are enough), but I actually dislike THAT kind of hair style, to be honest. If you use two different hues, it'd be probably better to give them a certain place (sides of the hair, top spikes, front, whatever).

I do it? Hmm, either I did that or it looked like it. By now I'm just using variable brightnesses for the shading. That doesn't give the effect of dyed hair ;)
