Shoutbox?

Way true. It's all about convenience. People are more prone to use the shout box that is on the same page as the forums rather than the Irc chat which opens up a new page away from the forums.
And so what if people spam? That's with the "clear history" or clear archive button is for. (whatever it would be called. *Tries to think back to G4F)

erm, creator seems not to have interest in this. I tryed a solution but there're problems with it so far...

For the shoutbox: Actually I prefer to ask what you guys will use a shoutbox for instead of the question if you want one.

I like IRC for chatting with guys where I don't have MSN or so but which write me pms and when I see they're just online this is a cool way - would never discuss these things in a shoutbox since the content stay then.

And a shoutbox? What will you post?

I can't really imagine a GOOD use for it and somehow I fear that we'll have problems with it later, too. Basically I would suggest to have both if I would know that you guys post nice things there and no adverticement, spam, insults, whatever...
But since I don't know what you would seriously use it for I prefer to do nothing so far

Well since I've started (and I quote Blue-Phoenix) an EPIC story, I would use it for broadcasting new available chapters. The problem is eventually other people would say things in the shoutbox and the information I put it will be downed.

So as of now I'm looking for such a shoutbox...if that is okay.

worth to do this, so give me a sec. And what you want sounds not like a shoutbox, you want forum announcements

There is no apparent reason for you to keep a shoutbox here. Here are the forums and there are is the IRC. Period

i agree with this and about the overview plugin: I tryed a way, a code-edit by a user, but this copdedit only implement the button, if I activate ajax reload it dont work anymore and it dont save the closed overview, so if you refresh its opened again...

Shoutbox:
- Can be used to answer quick questions
- It is fast and convenient, less problematic
- Tends to be spammed etc (Last time we had a shoutbox, it was pretty badly used and not well-monitored)
- Perhaps it can be put up as a link like the IRC now instead of displaying the main page

IRC:
- Better for chatting
- More sensible chatting can be achieved
- More versatile ; more functions
- Tends to be problematic
- But you can connect via another IRC program

Main issue
- Not very active
- We don't communicate much
- People abuse


I personally prefer the shoutbox to the IRC because the IRC can be really problematic and the shoutbox is faster. We don't communicate much, so there isn't really a point in having a IRC, we'd rather use MSN or other IRC programs to connect. It is true that the shoutbox can be spammed and abused but then again its more convenient.



But ultimately, I think it's all pointless. I hate to admit it, but both IRC and shoutbox are as good as useless, mainly because this community is pretty quiet.

G4F had a shoutbox that could be purged of all messages. I would've gotten it from Robo but his pc was taken.
