the two chases are independent and can still be aimed up or down
but will always start up parallel
i like it most when they spiral around each other

Will you add some visual enhancements too? ( Like Firens fireballs here)
And I guess the reason that you're not adding completely new attacks ( DvA input for John, for example) is because of the AI, right?

the AI is one reason - the second reason is balancing
there is nothing less frustrating than having a new unbalanced move that is either useless but gets executed by accident or one that is too powerful to give you any reason to use the others (and such things cannot always be fixed with injury/wait/mp adjustment - the motion itself can be the problem - and that turns a lot of work to waste)
i prefer connecting the existing ones or implementing some variations
alternatives to the original attack schemes

Awww.. I was expecting some form of actual Aerial Icicles.. which then drops down like gigantic pieces of hail.
Firen burning dash.. I'm expecting "FLAME ON, I'm the HUMAN TORCH!"... :P

My stuff:

1) DO NOT PM ME
2) Go read up on anatomy and proportions online. (google is your best friend)
3) Go read up on pencil sketching-shading.
4) Practice by making FULL character sheets. (Refer to bases and references if you have to, occasionally try doing things from scratch. You have to mix both methods; bases and without.)
5) DO NOT be an arrogant, self-righteous prick when people try to give useful critiques, and ignore the ones who are flaming idiots. (Flaming them back makes you one of them.)
6) Repeat steps 2 to 5 until you're happy, or you think you're good, then start sharing your knowledge with your fellow spriters.
7) Showcase your sprites. At first, do not be discouraged when you don't get any critiques, or lousy/generic critiques. Continue practicing and showcasing your work. With more sprites, it will be clearer what your strengths and weaknesses are, and people may be better able to give you better critique.
Lastly, if you think saying all this makes me an arrogant, self-righteous prick who is too selfish to share his knowledge...
Then I say you cannot recognise wisdom when I've just slapped you in the face with it. (Also, those steps are the same steps I used to get to where I am, I don't know any way else to truly learn.)
Unless you think its worth my time, go F*** yourselves. I'm not going to bother to even reply to PMs like "can you help me make this character?" anymore.

The Firen burning dash reminds me of an attack that I once made. During dashing (or right after rolling) Firen would ignite himself and when he touched the ground he slided along, leaving a trail of fire behind.
I highly doubt you would need sprites, but just in case:

Also, what's the key combination for the aerial icicle attack? Interesting, because as far as I remember AI rarely ever does special inputs while jumping.

just the ability to end the D>J with a dash - on fire
i have to admit that i tried to give it a custom landing (similar to what lauli described - not quite the same)
but the states (100/18/19) and different itr effects couldn't be combined to make this work on any circumstances (hit lag!)
and then after not getting it right i felt that it would become too fancy anyway
still this is a powerful addition if you expect firen to either stop or keep running at the same speed towards you
and then - fire dash in your face
if anyone manages to give a special landing to a looped two frame burning animation without changing the way the fire itr works - hats off

but I'm once again going for something much more simple
which requires only two frames like any other burning animation

he doesn't perform it as often as the ground version of course but still often enough to get you

edit: oh and maybe make the dash a bit quicker, it still seems pretty predictable
