One way to get an avatar is to save the picture or gif to somewhere on your computer, like say, My Documents: My Pictures. Then click on User CP, click "Change Avatar", click browse for the Upload Avatar part and select the picture or gif you saved and it will change. Warning: if the picture of gif is larger than 120x120 pixels it will be resized to fit, so if it's really big, it'll look really messy. And it also shouldn't be over 100kb in size. Hope this helps.
