Changing Loading Text
#1
Ok, this is about the third time I asked this question and received no answers (this thread seems to dislike questions :D). I'm no EXE-editor and I don't want to learn the command language on Olly Debugger yet, I'm already up to my knees in DCing for my mod :D.

All I'm asking for is the way to change the loading text in LF2 v2.0. I've done it via Silva's tutorial on LF2_v1.9c already. Since the addresses are different in v2.0, the indicators are different (or something like that), and the x/y coordinates of the loading text are different from the 1.9c version, and I do not understand the language of the commands used on Olly Debugger at all :D, I have no idea how to search for the loading text function.

I'm also desperate on changing the loading text; there are a bunch of locations I would like to keep hidden within my mod that I don't want to reveal. The loading text, however, gives it all away. So, finally...

Question:

How do I change the loading text to what I want to display on LF2 v2.0?

Thanks

Let's put it this way: if nobody answers, it is a sure sign that nobody knows a solution to the posted problem.

The reason I didn't answer your question is because I didn't have an answer yet. If I posted saying "I don't know" , I'd be a hypocrite (I hate everyone that says stuff like " I won't be joining" , "sorry i can't help" , "good job but i won't try it" ). To be honest, I still don't have a proper answer, but since you are so determined I'll give you a half-assed one. I don't remember how I found it in 1.9c, but I'm pretty sure it involved me staring at code for a while until I stumbled across it. I don't have enough time to do it.

If you want to find it, a simple way of doing it would be to go to "00401290" , you will see in the middle bit of OllyDBG something like "Local calls from blablabla" if you right click there and select "Show all Jumps and Local Calls", you'll get a list of all the things which call that function(this function is what displays text). Go through them all till you find the loading one.

Thanks. A 'half-assed' answer is actually better than none at all in my opinion Smile2, and editing my posts with an 'I don't know' message would have been better Smile2. Anyways, thanks for your help Silva. I'll try to find your way in getting the right calls. Sorry for the short post.

EDIT: Does the call for the loading text have to match up with the format of the command from 1.9c (does the command have to be in the format 'LEA >EDX<, DWORD PTR >SS< : [...]')? I changed all the calls with the command format 'LEA EDX, DWORD PTR SS: [...]' but the loading text still didn't change :D. It's a very simple question, really.

I don't know. There is only like 40-50 of them, just go through all of them... Shouldn't take more than an hour. Use ctrl+f2 to quickly restart.

Ok, so I went through each and everyone of the ninety-something calls to the address "401290" on Olly Debugger and edited every one of the commands that started with 'LEA' (that were right above the 'Call' command). None of them worked!!

Is the 'called' address off (the command says 'PUSH ESI')?

Or is it possible that the 'LEA' command for the loading text was 'jumped' to and then 'jumped back' in the commands above the 'call' command (and I missed it because I was only looking for the 'LEA' commands)?

Please Respond...

I never said that the LEA command has to be used... On the contrary, I told you to check all of them :p.

Doesn't the LEA command have to be used because the feature is used in changing text? The Push 'address' command is only used for dead, non-changing, texts. Also, if there are 'jump' commands tied to the preceding commands of the 'call' commands, then it would be impossible to check out all of them!

There's got to be some other easier way :D.

I don't know... I'm pretty sure I found the loading text the first time by finding the color, but now it is flashing :\.

There might be a way to track the loading text coding by color if the EXE activates the 'flashing color' feature a certain way. The question is as follows:

For the flashing feature, does the EXE normally create a new 'LEA' command (or some other reading command) for each 'flashing' color, like:

Push LF2 0D8775A
LEA EDX DWORD PTR SS: [...]
________Another Address_________

Push LF2 09F9F9F
LEA EDX DWORD PTR SS: [...]

________Another Address_________

Push LF2 0FFFFFF
LEA EDX DWORD PTR SS: [...]

***************Etcetera****************

Or does it only use the 'LEA' command once and then push on all the individual colors after it, like:

LEA EDX DWORD PTR SS: [...]
Push LF2 0D8775A
Push LF2 09F9F9F
Push LF2 0FFFFFF

***************Etcetera****************
(Note: The above colors were made up and may not be really what the EXE actually uses)

If the EXE should activate the 'flashing color' text feature by the second method, I can simply search for the 'Push' command string with all the colors (via screenshots and color detection). But if the EXE uses the first method, then chances of finding it become nearly impossible (because a lot of other text in LF2 are in the colors white, gray, and light blue)

Please Respond
