Eating meat is one thing and the there's this which is, in my honest opinion, inhumane.
Boiling alive dogs and killing them like this is horrible.
There should be a proper way of doing things.. sigh.

If it doesn't kill me, it is food. To me, the reason why dogs are considered taboo to eat is really because it is seen as a betrayal or waste of its companionship - in other words we already placed a value on something that would otherwise be just simple food. I don't entertain the idea of eating dog meat either, but I won't bat an eye for a chicken for this very reason. I'd go as far as to say that the animal is going to suffer regardless and would soon be too dead to care anyway.

I think the bigger problem is a matter of efficiency and waste as Memento pointed out. We started eating meat for the necessary calories that also facilitated our brain growth. Now food has become a luxury, and if we're going to keep wasting food, we'd end up needing to kill more than necessary and possibly exhaust the food supply before it can be replaced in the long run.

EDIT:
I'd also like to point out that there are many abandoned dogs out there because of irresponsible dog owners not knowing what they are getting into, and often if these dogs aren't adopted within a time period, they'd be euthanized.

Do people have some kind of farms where dogs are legaly being held and grown up just later to be slaughtered? Do you have any idea from where they are taking dogs for this stupid festival.

Chicken is suffering yes but why do they suffer? From where all these chikens come from? Somebody hunting them in the wild? No. People grow up them in farms, feed them so they would get big and juicy. Do you know how long does it take for a chicken to grow up? Chicken cannot live long as a dog. Farm chickens are just for food. Why not to eat some prisoners who will are sitting there for the rest of their life? One way or another they will die. Because of human rights and cannibalism? In that way we could save thousands of chickens, have dozens of donors, boost up number medical experiments and find the cure from a rare disease.

No petition can change this crooked world. Maybe only an extinction of our species would.

Whilst I find this topic worthy of discussion, sensationalism and appeal are not the way to go. Also, are we discussing "eating animals" or "torturing animals"? Because I don't really find a connection there. In any case, signing some weird-a** petition sounds just too suspicious. What is going to be done about it? Nothing. Leave these matters to those who have the power to change it (and support if you like), instead of falling for some scam or whatever. If the intention is discussion, however, I don't see a problem.

I agree that customs/traditions/religions shouldn't be excused for doing terrible atrocities. I just think we are going about it the wrong way though.

What about all the other animals that thrive off of other species. Are we going to tell them to stop it because we see it as morally unethical and wrong for them to do so? In order for us to ensure that they don't go astray and kill other animals for their survival we'll have to keep them behind bars, under close surveillance, and force them on an unnatural diet as we see fit. How are we going to control so many of them? Oh this must be too ridiculous. We don't have the technology or manpower to observe and enslave the whole world. Gee why don't we just apply this double standard to only our species. #totalitarianism #hypocrisy

Like i mentioned before, even if this petition were to convince authorities and the people involved in the festival to not celebrate it, we don't have the power to control other people's actions. We can influence them but for those radical, hateful, or selfish criminals will make it their job to go out of their way and make sure they get paid for the dog meat that they kill -or you know just for fun because some of them like to watch animals and other human beings in pain. We can't observe what they are doing behind closed doors we can only speculate. In order for us to be sure we would have to have surveillance and watch everyone's actions to see if they break the law for animal abuse. That power is dangerous. I wouldn't want people spying on me. The government might use that power against us. Anyways, we have laws against animal cruelty in quite a number of countries Laws by country So that's good i guess? with a little more time we'll see these number's increase

We all suffer in some way or another, it's apart of life. Jokingly aside, we did cause unnecessary suffering for our species to survive/thrive on their meat. We as a species can solve a way to avoid/overcome life's obstacles. I'm not 100% confident that we'll find a way to end suffering because it's all psychological but time will only tell as we increase our understanding of science and technology. And doing away with bad ideas (like religion :P)

Once we give up prejudices we can over look these barriers we once had. Why do some of us have a tendency to save furry animals? It's because they are so cute and adorable especially the babies since they are so fragile and sensitive. Some of the campaigns focus on those animals because they attract an audience but no one really bats an eye on every single animal that doesn't get enough support and funding. Like plants for instances or really ugly or unknown creatures. We can't sympathize with them or have no knowledge of them... and they go extinct.
It seems to be a human tendency to favor such traits because we try to find those traits and apply them to people who we try to date. Now ofc that's just mean... and some of us try not promote such superficial thinking. but it's been bred through thousand and thousands upon thousands of generations before us so we have this natural instinct to find an attractive partner based on those qualities. If i was a caveman i would try to quickly find a suitable mate, impregnate her, and succeed in passing on my genes to the next generation. I would have to make sure she didn't show signs of disease. Evolution wired us this way.

Actually if we look back in history thanks to hunters we didn't starve, once we got quite good at it we were able to have wolves as domestic animals >> breed them and help us herd live stock and develop our society. And thanks to that process we were able to go through the industrial age and produce a lot of quantity affordably for hundreds of thousands of people could benefit. Without it we may be living in the stone ages. Science and technology help us advance our society in better ways. Now ofc we made mistakes that we are still trying to correct but yeah if it wasn't for our ancestors we wouldn't have gotten this far. We had to look out for our own before helping others. Anyways, in some parts of the world, chickens don't need to be in factories just to be killed and eaten. If you go to a third world country they are hunting animals down, stricken with poverty these people live in huts and can't pay to eat food from restaurants or buy them from markets so they catch it on their own.

According to google the lifespan of an average dog in the UK that die of natural causes can live up to 13 years
And according to this site: a healthy chicken is expected to live a reasonable 20 years outside factory farms. It's common for a hen in a backyard setting to live 8-10 years. In the future, we may find a way to expand their life expectancy just like we did with our species.

I never had a relationship with my food before nor do i plan to. When i hook up with someone: i'm looking to have sex with them and not really looking to form a friendship or a close relationship especially one that involves me impregnating her without thinking it through. That stuff gets messy -although i wouldn't mind someday to be close with someone you can't expect people to be friends with someone they have no interest in. While some animals can form bonds that's up to them. I'm not friends with every single human being on this planet. We have our difference and among them are our ideology, common interests, values, respect, influence, happiness, and a true friend would not ask you to place the friendship before your principles. Also just to be clear, I'm not saying we should form enemies because some of us are so different but sometimes people just want to not deal with it. We have different levels of friendships based on what draws us together. You can't expect me to befriend every animal on the face of the planet. There are some animals that.. if they could.. would hunt me down and kill me for food. Those animals i really wouldn't want to meet... or at least within certain safety measures. Not too long ago there was an actress...who i forgot her name but she went out on a safari and a lion jumped out and killed her because he was hungry. She didn't follow safety procedures and she became his lunch. I'm sure animals do the same thing. However, not to sway to one side i'll show you an example of 2 unlikely friendships a Croc and a Human



the key thing to remember is the croc trusted him because the human was able to help him recover. normally this croc wouldn't let him live but under the circumstances they were able to form a relationship. It's my decision who i get to acquaint myself and form lasting relationships with. I don't want to get to know my food. It's just another thing for me to consume. I want you to understand that.

The Blue Whale is the largest animal alive on Earth today. But yes humans are the bigger animals compared to pigs... i don't see how we are bigger to cows but okay. (maybe in height but consider girth, not even the fattest/heaviest person on earth can outweigh/outgirth a cow) A full grown cow can weigh an average of about 1,500 lbs. That's nearly 1 ton! Anyways... you said we as a human species are of lower class to that of a pig and a cow? why? It seemed to me like you were trying to convince us that they are our equals and are not to be eaten because they are our "friends". So why are we inferior to them? because we make them suffer? you have to give a better explanation than just that. I already talked about how chickens suffer I would even go to say we suffer to the extent that they go under. Maybe not in the same way like a factory but there are other human beings that capture, torture and murder us sometimes for pure enjoyment or no reason at all. These atrosities happen literally every minute and there's nothing we can do to prevent this from occuring. I suggest you take a look at some of the "deep web" material. Now that's something that's hard to look at by comparison.

It's my job to protect my pet from harm. It's my own responsibility and no one else's. People who neglect/abandon their pet will certainly lose them not just to those people who use them for food and torture but from malnutrition, disease, and even by the mistreatment of the owners themselves. I accidentally overfed my sister's pet goldfish when i was a kid. It wasn't a crime since i was ignorant at that age. Educating people is the way to go, not have them sign petitions even if it may seem like a good idea. If you really want to change the world be an activist and an educator. Where you see injustice make it your job to help those in need.
