Couldn't create art surface when the sprite exists
#1
So I am doing this mod, and it works perfectly on my pc. But for some reason, some of my teammates are having a "couldn't create art surface" error on a sprite which exists in its correct directory with the right extension (bmp) and the correct exact name. This really seems random as some aren't having this at all.... So any guesses?

The one having problems is me :'( I got some screenies here so you guys can see what it looks like.
Error 1 (The one A-man is talking about) (Click to View)
As you can see, Sheff3 is RIGHT THERE.Error 2 is what happens when I add a # in front of ALL the id lines with problems. I go to vs mode, select chars, and fight. The Error 2 screen is actually the fighting screen (I could hear the characters fighting) :s
Here is the data.txt with the error2:
But when I use a normal exe file (Not modded at all, just with REShacker) it goes to the char select screen, but doesn't get to the fighting.

It looks like you might be hitting the bitmap limit.
Try with less or smaller bitmaps per file.

Just counted them and they are around 129 lines. I thought lf2 2.0 got a limit of 300-500 files (am I wrong?). Also it does work perfectly on my pc. Others are facing this same problem. Its really driving me nuts.. Thanks for trying to help nevertheless!

Edit: Thought you were talking about the objects limit. Anyways, all my dat files loads x =< 10 bitmaps, or are you talking about a bitmap limit for the whole exe?.

If it's working for some members, and some not, then try checking how much RAM this mod consumes!
Open task manager when the game is loading[Image: i299798_wdas.PNG]
if it reaches the top then there is no RAM left for the game to load, ad thus it can't store any images in it!

I does not depend on how much RAM he has, it depends on how much RAM is unused!
Example: The Game requires 400 MB RAM
You have 2 gb from which 700 mb is used. when you load the game it takes more 400 mb which makes it 1.1GB Ram usage.

Your friend has 4GB Ram from which 3.4 GB is used. when he loads the game it take more 400 mb which makes it 3.8 GB Ram( Remember: 4 GB= 3.75 GB in RAM)

Now your friend don't have enough RAM for the game to load!

Dude, if it was for the ram, it wouldn't be a "couldn't create art surface" error. And to your satisfaction, he checked the task manager and he had more than enough ram for it. Thanks for trying to help!

Are you using the DLL which patches the exe to load PNG files?

If yes, then I believe he does not have that DLL.

Why would I say so?
Because images are stored in a different way in every image format. If you rename a .bmp to have a .PNG extension, the DLL will cause the lf2.exe to process the image in the PNG format. And thus it will work.

But if your friend does not have that DLL, then the BMP processing cannot load the image, which is encoded in the PNG format.

Alternatively, certain characters like "-" are not supported as filenames, try changing them to 1, 2, 3, 4 .......
