LF2 Mafia

Ok. As we spoke on discord - we could play some lf2 mafia.
I've came up with a simple gameplay idea:

Is it up to decide, if there should be only mafia and citizens or other roles too. IMO only mafia VS townies + sheriff.
Players get mafia/townie/sheriff roles randomized by a host.
These regular roles uphold basic meaning and abilities.

In addition to these players can pick one of characters from LF2 (or get it diced).

Each character has a special ability, that can be used once a game only if the player is still alive.



Davis - using his incredible stamina and leadership abilities can save one player (self or other) from getting lynched. To use skill: player should ask for no kill in global chat, as the voting ends. Players can't change their votes then, the round ends with a no-kill.

Deep - as he is known for a cold blooded murderer, he can kill one of the players by the time of the night, but in exchange he automatically gets votes to get lynched. The amount of votes Deep gets is equal to half of the number of players (rounded up if float). Killed player will not get his role revealed, so it is unknown if Deep is killing a Townie or a Mafia. To use skill: player should send a PM to the host, before day starts.

Dennis - thanks to his stored energy can become absent for the time of one night and day. As he decides to leave he will be unaffected by any actions during the night and day. He can also not vote or get lynched by the time of the day. To use skill: player should send a PM to the host, before day starts.

Firen - as he dies in the night, he leaves a mark on the killer's body, which allows other players to determine, who the killer was. At the beginning of the day host should reveal killer's identity, if Firen died. If firen dies being a mafia he will appear as a townie, d/t all evidence gets burnt.

Freeze - using his freezing powers he can put one of the players into a frosty coma for one day and night. Frozen player can't speak or vote or take any other action during the night. To use skill: player should send a PM to the host, before day starts.

Henry - thanks to his shrewdness can poison one of the players during nighttime. The player will become sick, what should be announced by a host, at the beginning of the day. The same player will die as the next night comes. To use skill: player should send a PM to the host, before day starts.

John - using a shield can save one player during a night time. Shielded player can not be harmed/healed/spied/affected by any action, but it won't reveal if there was an action taken on the player. To use skill: player should send a PM to the host, before day starts.

Louis - can protect self or another player from getting murdered by the time of the night. Louis can ask Host to protect selected player, then the protection will last until the player is attacked or Louis dies. Louis can not change who is protected. To use skill: player should send a PM to the host at any time of the game.

Rudolf - with his invisibility skills Rudolf can either select to stay home or spy on a certain player. Staying home will cause him to remain immune to all actions. If he decides to spy, a host should send him a PM with spied player's role. To use skill: player should send a PM to the host, before day starts.

Woody - using teleport can switch two players place during night, in this case all actions taken on a player that was teleported will affect the other teleported Player. To use skill Player should send a PM to a host before Day starts.

If more players than roles available, roles could be either copied or not given to some players.

This sounds great. However if I understood correctly the LF2 roles are distributed on top of the existing mafia / town roles? In which case some of them would be really useless for one side than another. An example would be Firen, because if you're mafia then there is basically no way that you die in the night time is there? Maybe an alternative is needed, so if Firen is mafia he gets an effect when he's lynched?

Otherwise a really great idea and effort put into designing the roles. I'd love to test it when it's thoroughly thought out and balanced! (that's what we should try and do here before we start I guess)

Quick suggestion for Woody since he's missing:

Woody - Using his power of teleportation, he may either teleport himself to another player's room, or teleport another player into his room.
In other words, Woody's ability is to share rooms with someone. For example:
* Let's say Woody decides to teleport to Davis. If anyone targets Woody, they'd fail. However, if anyone targets Davis, both Davis & Woody will be affected.
* Conversely, if Woody teleports Firen into his room, then Firen will be safe unless someone targeted Woody, then they'll both be affected.

Rhino.Freak mentioned that in Town of Salem there's two similar roles:
Quote:There's 2 roles like that in town of salem.. 1 is "transporter", basically just target 2 players and change their locations. so if mafia went to kill sheriff, transporter can switch sheriff with doctor. but ofcourse he doesn't know what he's doing
Other role is "witch", you can basically "control" a certain player to use his night time ability on some other player.

Ok. So again from me. Few thoughts to make characters more balanced.

Firen:
So as firen dies his role will not appear if he is mafia, so players are not sure yet if mafia was killed or not. If killed by mafia during night will leave a mark on killer.

Deep:
As he kills he does not reveal killed identity so you dont know if he was right or killed townie on purpose.

Woody:
could switch players position, so if played correctly could kill sheriff or mafia instead of another player. Mafia could use if they predict if another Player is protected. It would also show who was found where so Woody could be suspected as a mafia

Since this could become quite chaotic on Discord with all the new roles, how about an LF2-Mafia variant here on the forums?
